Can I get banana plug ends? - Back
to Top
Yes, these are special order, and cost a bit more.
Should I bi-wire? - Back
to Top
Absolutely, if you can. As a general rule, the lower
the speaker's impedance is, and the longer the run,
the more benefit bi-wiring can provide.
How do I bi-wire? - Back
to Top
To Bi-Wire, simply buy two sets. The 1/4" Copper
spades are thin, so it is easy to put two on one binding
post.
Can I bi-wire with Banana Plugs in the Amplifier
end? - Back to
Top
Yes, this requires us to make a special "shot gun"
set. An extra charge will applied.
How long do they take to break-in? - Back
to Top
Because the Anti-Cable wire has very little
dielectric material surrounding it, there is very little
"break-in" effect. Most people think the Anti-Cables
sound great right out of the box, yet others report
they get better with time.
Can I run different lengths? - Back
to Top
Yes, with the Anti-Cables.
A typical speaker cable's dielectric affect will accumulate
with longer runs, causing the distortion to become worse
and worse. For example, AudioQuest FAQ pages state that,
"the speaker hooked up to the longer cable will
sound as though it is lacking punch and dynamics."
Since the Anti-Cables have almost no dielectric material,
running different lengths has not been a problem.
What size are the spades? - Back
to Top
They are the standard 1/2" wide with a 1/4"
opening. If you need the smaller "vintage"
size spade, or a larger spade, we can do that special
for you.
What spades do you use? - Back
to Top
We use an industrial grade, lightly tinned, (to prevent
oxidation) solid copper spade that is specified for
Aircraft use. This means it is light weight, yet built
for high performance and high reliability. Each Spade
is "cold welded" (extreme high pressure crimp)
to the copper wire.
How stiff is the wire? - Back
to Top
The Anti-Cable wire is flexible enough to loop around
a Magic Marker size pen, yet stiff enough to hold that
shape after you let go. Because of their unique malleability,
they can be drawn and formed into virtually and shape
you need.
Can the wires touch each other? - Back
to Top
Yes, the red coating insulates the copper wire, and
is rated at about 10 times the voltage typically seen
coming out of a power amplifier. There is no chance
of shorting out your amplifier.
Are these wires difficult to use? - Back
to Top
They are not difficult to use, but they certainly handle
differently than typical speaker cables.
What happens if I kink the wire? - Back
to Top
No problem. A kink will not affect the sound in any
way, and can easily be un-kinked. Using a pair of leather
gloves, squeeze tight and draw the kink in the wire
through you hands a few times to straighten.
How durable is the red coating? - Back
to Top
The red coating will not ware off under normal conditions.
The red coating can be scraped off with a sharp knife,
yet a sharp knife would also cut any typical cable as
well.
The great thing about the red coating is it also keep
oxygen off the copper through the life of the cables,
preventing oxidation and sonic degradation. This is
something no typical speaker cable can do. Cut open
a 5 year old set of typical cables, and don't be surprised
if the copper looks like a 5 year old penny.
What kind of wire is it? - Back
to Top
Super long drawn continuously cast oxygen free copper
(CCOFC).
Can I buy just the red wire? - Back
to Top
If you are a DIY'er, you can buy the Anti-Cable wire
in bulk form for $1.25/foot.
